Two foxes rest on stone as the world ignites around them. Dawn arrives not as gradual illumination but as conflagration: pink light sweeping across alpine ridges, setting pine and fur alike ablaze with the same gentle fire. The foxes exist in that suspended moment between sleep and waking, when the boundary between self and landscape dissolves.
This is the quiet hour when the world reveals itself as it truly is: warm, vast, and somehow held. The foxes anchor the scene not through action but through presence, through their simple willingness to be still as light transforms everything it touches. What I'm painting is not sunrise but the feeling of sunrise: that wordless contentment that arrives when we stop analyzing and simply witness the world becoming itself again, as it does each morning, as it always has.
